Not All Treasure Is Silver and Gold: Pirates of the Caribbean
Once upon a time, the waters were free to anyone with the cunning, skill, and daring to venture out into the great wide ocean. In this time, many sought their futures and fortunes at sea. Some joined the burgeoning navies of the competing (and at times warring) European nations. Others sought a life independent of a royal crown and became pirates. At the Second Brethren Court some time in the late-17th Century, the pirate lords Morgan and Bartholomew set the Pirate Code down on paper. It served the pirate community well, but since then, the world has changed greatly. The time has come for a new Brethren Court to bring the Pirate Code into the world of the 18th Century. Tortuga, the last free port in the Caribbean, sets the backdrop for the Court that will decide the future of every mother’s son who calls himself a pirate!
Topic 1 - Drafting a Pirate Code
For the sake of those who call themselves pirates or simply anyone who does not want to live under the control of the British, a new Brethren Court of Pirates must draft a new Pirates Code. Organizing those resistant to the British Empire by delineating new rules—nay, guidelines—of behavior may just be the best way to repel the threat to you all. Think of this as the chance to draft a constitution for a confederation of pirates and outlaws to stand strong against the ever-encroaching British Empire.
Topic 2 - Repelling the British East India Co.
The British West India Co. has been signing contracts with every willing Caribbean port for decades. They have coerced many other ports into agreeing to their legal codes and practices. The Caribbean is now swarming with ships flying British colors. Plenty of good marks for the taking, but they have the full force of the British Navy behind them. Tortuga, where this committee meets, remains the last vestige of a bygone era of free navigation. Here, you must plan to face the British West India Co. one way or another.
