JCC They’ll be back: Great Britain
From Hudson Bay to the Floridas, the American colonies of King George III are awash with sedition. The traitorous colonials have protested against Parliament’s taxes for nearly a decade ever since Britain’s stunning victory in the Seven Years War, a conflict fought to protect the colonies from French incursion, but one that the Americans have refused to show any gratitude or repay the crown for. When British forces attempted to safeguard the American gunpowder stockpiles from colonial firebrands, they were ambushed by American radicals at Lexington and Concord, plunging the colonies into a state of rebellion. Now, the British Army is besieged in Boston by a mob of provincial militiamen, the colonies convene in a “Continental Congress” to plan their next move, while their agents have seized Fort Ticonderoga’s heavy artillery, leaving royal forces in New England and Canada scattered and vulnerable. As such, this committee, the royal cabinet of King George III and other notable allies of the crown, has been summoned in order to respond to this threat, push back Britain’s foreign rivals, and crush the American Revolution once and for all.
Topic 1 - Reasserting Our Authority
Although Britain’s forces are some of the most elite in Europe, they have begun to show vulnerabilities to the American style of guerrilla warfare, while the extraordinary costs of funding British armies continue to drain the treasury. This committee must develop new solutions to these issues in order to adapt its forces to warfare in America, while proposing new strategies to break through the colonial defenses and subdue its rebellious subjects. Identifying ways to break Britain out of its diplomatic isolation and prevent foreign support of the revolution is also essential for victory.
Topic 2 - Reforming Colonial Policy
Preserving Britain’s colonial empire is essential for maintaining its hegemony over Europe, and so the spread of revolutionary ideas to Britain’s other territories must be prevented at all costs. Some have argued that leniency towards the colonies will keep them loyal, while others continue to advocate for their disarmament and harsher treatment in order to break resistance. This committee must identify how to govern Britain’s vast colonial holdings, deciding between securing their loyalty and ensuring their obedience.
