Letter from the Secretary-General

Letter from the Secretary-General

Delegates, Sponsors, Faculty, and Friends of WMHSMUN,

For nearly 40 years, WMHSMUN has been at the forefront of innovation and excellence in high school Model UN. Since its inception in 1987, our conference has served as a forum to support and challenge the leaders of tomorrow, allowing them to discuss real-world issues in an environment forged from our core values of diplomacy, substance, and empowerment. From these values, we aim to shape the next generation of world leadership—a mission that has never been more vital than it is now.

For this next iteration of WMHSMUN, we are delighted to be showcasing a range of committees as we strive for intellectually and thematically diverse debate, reflecting the multitude of experiences which shape the political landscape of the world. It is my sincere hope that all involved with WMHSMUN, from delegates to staffers to sponsors, leave Williamsburg this November with a deeper appreciation for the importance of diplomatic communication and collaboration.

It is my distinct honor and pleasure to invite you all to WMHSMUN XXXVIII. I encourage you to explore our website and social media for more information and updates as we bring this conference to life. As always, please feel free to reach out to me or my Secretariat with any questions. I am excited to welcome you to William & Mary this November for an engaging and unparalleled weekend of debate!

Sincerely,

Beatrice Ladrón de Guevara

Secretary-General, WMHSMUN XXXVIII

Service

Every year, the International Relations Club at William & Mary supports different international non-governmental organizations, advocacy groups, or philanthropy. In efforts recognized by Best Delegate’s “Best College Model UN Organizations, Leaders, Projects, and Administration 2021-22”, we focus not only on monetary contributions itself, but also on raising awareness and highlighting overlooked international social problems.

During the 2023-2024 academic year, the IRC@WM is proud to support She’s the First, an organization dedicated to ensuring that “girls everywhere are respected, seen, and heard”, and we are thrilled to work alongside our Service team to support such important community advocacy work!

For the 2024-2025 academic year, a new charity will be chosen by IRC members. Throughout WMHSMUN weekend the Service team of IRC, IRCares, will lead initiatives support the chosen organization and we encourage you to donate and support if you feel inclined to. We are excited to support the chosen organization with our Service team this fall!
